Daytona - Ormond Beach Florida Facts
Daytona Beach is "The World's Most Famous Beach" with 23 miles of great white sand beaches. The area's fame really began to spread when cars started racing on the beach around the turn of the century.
Sailing, surfing and jet-skiing are very popular. Competitions in these ocean sports are held throughout the year. The nearby Halifax river or Intercoastal waterway also provides activities such as powerboat cruising and commercial boat tours. Deep sea fishing charters are available at the Ponce Inlet marinas.
Home of Daytona International Raceway. Many old-time speed records were set on the flat sand beaches here. Some of the beaches still allow cars to be driven on them, though care should be taken during the drives. Near the fishing pier is a wide promenade with much recreation available along it. The average annual temperature is a warm 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius), and the average water temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
